Letter From the CEO

I was looking forward to announcing the achievements of our first Path to Zero goal, becoming a zero landfill company. Though we are unable to announce victory yet, I still find our progress an incredible success- at one point we reached a 98% diversion rate. The waste and recycling industries have been hit hard in this economy along with everyone else, but we will continue to push forward toward our ultimate goal. We believe that companies should take responsibility for their waste as well as their products. Though we have been challenged by unforeseen obstacles, we are proud to be taking a leadership role in this area and anticipate a time when zero landfill is not just a goal of visionary companies, but the baseline of what is expected from all companies.

This year, in addition to waste reduction and diversion, 3form also focused on improving our environmental management system, energy conservation, growing our reclaim program, and expanding our sustainable product offerings. We are proud to be ISO 14001:2004 certified for our Environmental Management System, which effectively integrates environmental values, targets, and training into everyday management decisions. In 2008, we reduced our net energy use despite strong growth in production and we are increasingly able to divert more waste from landfill though our reclaim program. Perhaps most exciting is expansion of the 100 Percent product line, made from 100% post-consumer recycled material, and the unveiling of our new material technology to encapsulate solar PV in resin, as debuted in San Francisco's new transit shelters. 3form continues to break boundaries in design while integrating it with principles of sustainability.

The key, we have found, to integrating sustainability into our everyday work is to create a culture that supports those values. Not long before our annual GreenWeek this year, I was honored to hear Majora Carter, a passionate and accomplished environmental justice activist, tell her story about organizing the revitalization of the South Bronx, where she grew up. Her mantra, that you shouldn't have to move in order to live in a better neighborhood, inspired us to focus our 5th annual GreenWeek on making our homes, our workplace, and ultimately the planet, a healthier place to live. Building on her example, we focused on empowering one another to create positive change both individually and in groups. After all, change and progress stem not from the status quo, but from informed, passionate, empowered individuals working together.

Below are some of our accomplishments over the past year.

Thank you not only for your interest and support of 3form and what we do, but for continuing to push us toward continued innovation and sustainability. We thrive on the reciprocal relationship we have with our clients and look forward to hearing your feedback.

All the best
